He is a graduate of the Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones College in Dallas, TX in September 1966. He is married to Louise Plemmons who is a native of Valdese. They have three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is a member of the Valdese Rotary Club, a Mason and Shriner, and Cornerstone Baptist Church in Valdese where he is a Deacon.
