Wallace Clayton Smith

Wallace Clayton Smith, 85, of Granite Falls, departed this life to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his residence following a period of declining health.

Wallace was born on December 15, 1940, in Washington County, Tennessee to the late Oscar Smith and Lyda Belle Carberry Smith. For over 35 years, Wallace served in a leadership position with Clayton Marcus Furniture, demonstrating his commitment and expertise. Beyond his professional life, Wallace was deeply devoted to Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, athletic director, and Royal Ambassadors leader. His passion for youth extended to the sports field, where he coached youth league sports locally. Wallace found joy in working outside and passionately followed Tennessee Volunteer football. Known for his loving nature, Wallace was loved by everyone he encountered, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of those he touched.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Margie Cannon Smith of the home; his sons, Mike Smith and wife Gena of Arden and Greg Smith and wife Sylvia of Granite Falls; his brother, Harold Smith and wife Judy of Granite Falls; his grandchildren, Nathan Smith and wife Natalie, Sophie Smith, Colton Smith and Phoebe Smith; he is survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to name. He is also survived by his special cousins, the Carr boys from Tennessee.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 12:30-2:00 P.M. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Granite Falls.

Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Lonnie Bell and Rev. Wayne White officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
