Sue Turnmyre Elder

Sue Turnmyre Elder of Opelousas Louisiana formerly of Granite Falls North Carolina went home to be with her Lord on September 16, 2026.

Sue was born on September 25, 1948, in Catawba County to the late Pete Irvin Turnmyre and Thelma Sherill Turnmyre. Sue was a graduate of Granite Falls High School in 1966. She attended Gardner Webb College and graduated with an AA degree in 1968. She was a Cheerleader for both Granite Falls high and Gardner Webb College. Sue moved to Louisiana in 1994 and married James Elder. She worked as a legal secretary. Sue was a Christian and grew attending Philadelphia Lutheran church in Granite Falls.

In addition to her mother and father Sue was preceded in death by her only son; Jason Botts Spain and husband James Elder.

Sue had two grandsons Tyler Spain of Scottsdale Arizona and Triston Spain of Richland Hills Texas. Sue also had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life Sue lived will be held on October 23, 2026, at Philadelphia Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 AM to 11 AM. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls where she will be laid to rest alongside her son Jason Botts Spain.

Friends and family are invited to a light lunch inside the fellowship hall of Philadelphia Lutheran Church following the Graveside service.
