Steven Bruce Gilbert

Mr. Steven Bruce Gilbert, age 78, of Hickory passed away peacefully and entered into his eternal home on Friday September 11, 2026, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Steven was born into this world on February 2, 1948, in Hickory to the late Charles Lee Gilbert Sr. and Marcella Mae Gilbert. Steven was a decorated military veteran who proudly served in the United States Special Forces for 20 years before retiring from the military. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Parachute Badge, honors that reflected his dedication, courage, and commitment to serving his country. Outside of his military service, Steven enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. He had a true passion for cars and loved attending car shows and cruise-ins, where he could admire beautiful vehicles and share his enthusiasm with others. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, making memories and enjoying the peace and beauty of nature. Steven will be remembered for his service to his country, his love of the outdoors and automobiles, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents Steven is proceeded in death by his brother, Jerry W. Gilbert

Those left to cherish the memory of Steven include his brothers; Jerry Gilbert and wife Jeanette and Chuck Gilbert; Sisters, Cynthia Bowman and husband Ronnie; Sister in-law, Sandra Gilbert; Son, Adam Shane Gilbert; Daughter, Carrie Denice Gilbert. Also surviving is his fiancé/caregiver, Millie Drum.

Per Steven’s request there will be no formal services held
