Shirley Yvonne Baker Powell, age 82, peacefully transitioned from her earthly life to her Heavenly life, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Carolina Care Hospice. She was born in Hudson, North Carolina on July 28, 1943, to the late Roy and Edna Pope. She was married to the late Bill Baker for 55 years had 3 wonderful children until his passing in 2016, after this she was married to the late Thomas Powell for 8 years until his passing in 2025

In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by her brothers, J.D. Pope and Gene Pope and her sisters Faye Chandler and Ruth Watson.

She is survived by her three children Monty Baker; Revonda Brown (Dale) and Gwen Baker; and 11 grandchildren Angie Bauer; Monica Baker (Marcus DeBeve); Rachelle Loe (Stephen);Dakota Baker; Davie Baker; Bethany Hadden (Chris); Mindy Black (Ryan); Ashley Smith (Darren); Kali Brown; Hannah Watkins (David); Molly Hildebrand (Beau); and 13 great-grandchildren Jayden Fox; Carson Fox; Aries DeBreve; Elias DeBreve; Ryker Hadden; Riddick Hadden; Rylie Hadden; Dustin Brown; Drew Black; Karter Black; Levi Smith; Micah Smith; Declan Hildebrand and one great-great-grandchild Roman Ostendorff.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading her Bible, theological books and novels; she enjoyed serving in different ministries such as singing in multiple Church’s, being a women’s speaker; helping to organize women’s events; but most of all, being faithful to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In her younger years she enjoyed traveling; camping with friends and family; she even had the opportunity to move to Taiwan two years with even the chance to visit Hawaii a few times.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Mount Harmony Church on Monday May 4th at 2:00 PM, with receiving of friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service, with Pastor Darren Smith officiating.
