Phyllis Lynn Saunders High, 78, of Granite Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation following a brief illness.
Phyllis was born on February 23, 1947, in Catawba County to the late Fred and Pearl Saunders. Phyllis, alongside her husband Tommy and her in-laws, T.C. “Lanky” High and Annie Mackie High, dedicated many years as a co-owner and secretary of High Funeral Home, which later became Mackie-High Funeral Home. Her commitment to providing compassionate service and helping families during difficult times was a cornerstone of her life’s work. Phyllis was known for her infectious laugh, her generosity, and her unwavering optimism. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Granite Falls, where she found strength in her faith and community.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 59 years, Thomas Clair “Tommy” High, Jr. of the home; her sons, Clair High and wife Jennifer of Pittsburgh, PA, and Avery High and wife Tiffany Cane of Lynn, MA; her grandchildren, Thomas High and Edith High of Pittsburgh; her sisters, Jeanette S. Johnson of Hilton Head, SC, and Diane S. Teague of Athens, GA; one brother, Randy Saunders of Lenoir; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 17th at First Baptist Church in Granite Falls with Rev. Jay Worsley officiating. Internment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 16th, from 7:00 to 8:00PM at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls.
