Mollie Jane Simmons

Mollie Jane Simmons, age 84, of Granite Falls, NC, passed away July 27, 2026. Born January 15, 1942, to William Finley Simmons and Pawnee Kiture Mullinax Simmons, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Stephen Simmons.

Jane graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1964 and began teaching at Hudson Elementary School. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Appalachian State University in 1974 and continued to teach for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

Jane was a member of First Baptist Church of Granite Falls, Alpha Delta Kappa, the South Caldwell Investment Club, and the Magnificent Seven, a group of retired teachers who enjoyed time around town and playing cards.

Jane is survived by her sister-in-law, Judith Simmons; nephews Matthew (Karen) Simmons and Eric (Liz) Simmons, niece Lois Jane Watson (Chris), great-nephews Sam (Jackie), Ethan, Finley (Clara), Robert, Joshua, Stephen, and Nate, and great-great niece Hazel, who all brought her great joy.

A funeral service to honor Jane’s life will be held on August 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Granite Falls. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church.

A private interment will follow the service at Pinecrest cemetery in Granite Falls.
