Granite Falls NC

Lynn Blackburn Potter, 68, of Granite Falls, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Lynn was born on May 17, 1958, in Catawba County to the late Thomas Blackburn and Alice Lackey Blackburn. Lynn was a beloved member of the Granite Falls and Hudson communities. She dedicated her life to education and went back to earn her bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education at Appalachian State University while working full time and raising her two children. For over two decades, Lynn shaped young minds as a teacher at Granite Falls Middle School and Hudson Middle School, where her passion for learning was infectious. Beyond the classroom, she inspired students as a cheerleading coach at South Caldwell High School, Hudson Middle School and Granite Falls Middle School, fostering spirit and teamwork.

Lynn was known for her generous heart, quick wit, and captivating storytelling. She had a remarkable ability to make people laugh and never met a stranger, instantly connecting with everyone she encountered. A fiercely loyal friend and loving mother, daughter, and friend, her most cherished title was “Gigi”. Lynn was also a devoted sports fan, cheering passionately for her Carolina Panthers, Tar Heels and App State. Her furry companions, Katy Purry and Sadie, were a constant source of joy. Lynn’s unwavering generosity and kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Granite Falls, and Concord Baptist Church in Granite Falls. At the time of her passing, she was a cherished member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Emily Ann Copeland (Josh) of Salisbury and Lindsey Nicole Potter (Tori) of Statesville; her sisters, Ann McDaniels and Rita Blackburn; her grandchildren, Skylar, Sawyer, JS, WS, MS, AS, and Alice; and her ride or die friend, Julie Robbins.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 18th from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

A Celebration of Life for Lynn Potter will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 547 6th Street NW, Hickory, NC 28601 with Rev. Hannah Norem and Rev. Dr. Keith Copeland officiating.
