Luther Midas Smith

Luther Midas Smith, 88, of Lenoir, departed this life to his heavenly home on Sunday November 16, 2025 at Amorem-Forlines Hospice in Hudson following a period of declining health.

Luther was born on March 17, 1937 in Caldwell County, to the late Finley Smith and Lula Bolick Smith. He was deeply involved in his community both through his faith and his business. A veteran of the United States Navy, he carried his commitment to service as co-founder of W & S Frame Company. He was a devoted member of Union Grove Baptist Church, where he found fellowship and worship an important part of his life. Above all, he loved the Lord, his community and his family. In his leisure time, he found joy in fishing and bowling.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Wilson Smith; his son, Mark Smith; and one brother and numerous sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Robin Hamby and husband Jimmy of Lenoir; his grandchildren, Jeremiah Hamby and wife Mariah of Lawrenceville, GA, Joshua Hamby and wife Olivia of Lenoir, Noah Smith of VA, and Kalee Smith of Lenoir; his daughter-in-law, Tracy Smith of Lenoir; his sister-in-laws, Mary Munday and husband Jim of Granite Falls and Jo Wilson of Granite Falls; a brother-in-law, Johnny Wilson and wife Dean of Granite Falls; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, November 21, 2025 at Union Grove Baptist Church in Lenoir, with Rev. Sam Craven officiating.
