Leroy Glass

Leroy Glass, 82, of Morganton, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 24, 2025, at Autumn Care of Drexel.

Born on July 13, 1943, in Morganton, North Carolina. Leroy was the son of the late Paul Joseph Glass and Eugenia Mae (Johnson) Glass.

Leroy was a retired painter from Broughton Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina for over 15 years. Leroy was known for his occupational skills of painting, carpentry, mechanics, plumbing. He was also an electrician, bartender, gas attendant, hospital orderly, and construction laborer. Leroy was truly a “jack of all trades”.

Leroy served in the United States Army in 1975 and was a Honorable Disabled Veteran. Leroy had been an American Legion member and was a Masonic member.

Known for his charismatic personality, quiet strength, and quick wit, Leroy had a gift of making others laugh and smile. He had a magnetic personality that drew people in leaving a lasting impression with all who met him.

Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Johnson Glass; father Paul Joseph Glass Sr.; mother Eugenia Mae Johnson Glass; stepmother Daisy Glass; brother Paul Joseph Glass Jr.; sister Peggy Glass Connelly Thompson; son Leroy Glass Jr.; adopted son Carlton Lamaar Edmondson; and grandson Jarae Millsaps.

Leroy is survived by 1 Brother John Henry Glass (Savannah) of Granite Falls, NC and 6 children: Daughter Constance Adoree Millsaps (James) of Lenoir, NC; Daughter Virgena “Kitty” Glass of Concord, NC; Son Lee Anthony Glass (Guerdie) of Galena, OH; Son Joseph Lee Glass (Catherine) of Denver, NC; Daughter Melea Dawn Glass of Hickory, NC and his Legal Son Aquil Glass of Morganton, NC (Anna). Leroy had 10 grandchildren: Jamila Millsaps, Mitchell “Icka” Millsaps, Jarae “Tunka” Millsaps (deceased), Jasmine Wilson (Avery), Anthony “AJ” Glass Jr, Leila Glass, Leena Glass, Jaelyn Glass (Dontavist), Jayda Glass, and Jordin Glass. Leroy had 10 great grandchildren: Javien Millsaps, Zion Millsaps, Isaiah Millsaps, Brentlan Millsaps, Jordan Phillips, Haley Mitchell, Isaac Barker, Addison Millsaps, James Jarae Millsaps, and Jordan Debro and one great-great granddaughter: Annie Lee Phillips. And 1 God daughter Lisa Johnson Lawrence.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm Sunday august 31st, 2025 in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls, officiating pastor James Millsaps. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills cemetery in Granite Falls.

The family will receive friends prior to the service, on Sunday from 2:00PM to 3:00PM at Mackie Funeral Service.
