Larry Francis Crane, 92, of Granite Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at his Residence.
Larry was born on May 20, 1933, in Catawba County, a son of the late Luther Blackstock and Erma Bowman Blackstock. In addition to his step-father and mother, he was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Crane and his Sister, Scottie Bowman Bailey.
Larry was a proud and dedicated Army Veteran who went on to serve his community as a valued member of the Hickory Fire Department and alongside the Hickory Police Department. His lifelong commitment to service and helping others left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be remembered most as a loving father and grandfather whose kindness, humor, and generous spirit touched the lives of his family and friends. In his free time, Larry enjoyed playing card games, and he found peace and joy in hunting and fishing trips with those closest to him. A true tinkerer at heart, Larry loved fixing things and could often be found working on a project or helping family members with repairs—there was little he couldn’t make work again. He was also an avid collector, always on the lookout for unique and vintage treasures that sparked his curiosity. Larry’s warmth, dedication, and gentle nature will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Those left to Cherish his memories include his three children, Jeffery Scott and wife Karla Crane of Granite Falls, Vicki Gibson and husband Scott Gibson of Durham, John Crane and Kimberly Crane of Granite Falls; five grandchildren Jason Crane of Chapel Hill, Tiffiany Crane of Bethlehem, Matthew Gibson of Hillsboro, Phillip Crane of Granite Falls and Megan Crane of Granite Falls; three Great Grandchildren, Sarai Crane, Samuel Crane and Ava. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, November 15, inside the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 prior to the service at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls, NC.
