Joanne Cagle Yount

Joanne Cagle Yount, age 90, of Granite Falls, passed away on September 13, 2026. She was born March 19, 1936 in Pinehurst, NC and grew up in Grace Chapel and Granite Falls. She graduated from Granite Falls High School, and earned a B.A. degree at Lenoir Rhyne University and an M.A. from Appalachian State University. She taught 5th grade to generations of students for 30 years, first at Baton Elementary, and for 25 years at Granite Falls Elementary. She loved teaching. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Granite Falls and enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir.

Joanne enjoyed painting, cross-stitching, Bible journaling, and reading, as well as her pets and watching birds. She had a curious nature and was a life-long learner, interested in many subjects.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, James B. “Jim” Yount; her son, Boyce Mark Roberts; her parents, L.E. and Edith Cagle; and her brother, Lynn Cagle. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Roberts Price (Jerry) of Maryville, TN; two granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by a sister-in-law, Debby Annas, and her husband David, who were instrumentally supportive in her last years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 27 at First United Methodist Church of Granite Falls.
