Joan W. Parker, 91, of Moyock, North Carolina, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, surrounded by the love of her family.

Joan was born on January 21, 1935, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Nathan and Lula (Phelps) White. On September 10, she married the love of her life, Carlton “Roy” Parker, and together they shared 68 beautiful years of marriage. Roy preceded her in passing on May 1, 2021, and no doubt welcomed her home with open arms.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Craig, and his wife, Gina.

Those left to carry forward her legacy and cherish her memory include her children, Cheryl Campbell (Jamie) of Elk Point, South Dakota, and Lee Parker of Moyock, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Chris Pederson (Heather), Heather Pederson (Tom), Brittany Mask (Jesse), Cory Parker (Kristen), Brooke Carroll (Nathan), and Cari Bonney (Mike); as well as 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

Joan and Roy built a life rooted in love and simple joys, living in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, and Knotts Island before settling in Moyock, where they built their home overlooking the peaceful waters of Tulls Bay—a view they both treasured.

Throughout her life, Joan wore many hats, working at Little Creek Navy Bank, Cox Cable, and later as a real estate agent in Virginia. No matter where life took her, she brought kindness, dedication, and a quiet strength to all she did.

She found happiness in the simple things—tending to her garden, working through crossword puzzles, and spending time at the beach whenever she could. She and Roy cherished traveling with friends and visiting family in South Dakota, Hudson, North Carolina, and Knotts Island.

But above all else, Joan’s greatest joy was her family. She loved gathering everyone together, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas, where her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

Even in her later years, as Alzheimer’s progressed, Joan’s heart remained deeply connected to those she loved. She found comfort in the presence of family, friends, and caregivers, and her most frequent question—“When are you coming to visit?”—was a simple but powerful reflection of how much she treasured being surrounded by those she loved.

Her life was one of love, devotion, and quiet grace, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
