James Delbert “Jim” Brookshire, 71, of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 16, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his loving family following a period of declining health.
James was born on April 9, 1955 in Caldwell County, to the late Earl Delbert Brookshire and Irene Omie Storie Brookshire.
James was a natural leader from a young age, serving as class president at Gamewell Collettsville High School. His athletic talents shone brightly on the baseball diamond where he was a star pitcher for his high school team. His love for baseball continued throughout his life, as he spent over two decades playing in various softball leagues, and later found immense joy in watching his granddaughter play the sport he cherished. Jim was of the Pentecostal faith.
Beyond his passions for faith and sports, James had a deep love for his family and for music, especially the heartfelt sounds of Bluegrass. He was a dedicated employee of Lenoir Mirror Company for over 30 years, where he deeply loved his “Lenoir Mirror family”. He treasured the simple pleasures of life, often spending hours visiting friends, sitting and talking, sharing stories and laughter. His presence brought comfort and happiness to all who knew him, and he will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Elaine Brown Brookshire of the home; his daughter, Amanda Brookshire of Lenoir; his son, Jeremy Brookshire and wife Adrianne of Lenoir; his grandchildren, Dustin Beaver and wife Yvonne, Karlie Burgess and husband Zakk, Joshua Brookshire and Lyndsey Brookshire; his great- grandchildren, Noah Beaver, Aaralyn Stanley and Apollo Stanley; his father-in-law, Bill Brown; and numerous cousins and other extended family members who he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his sisters, Cathy Brookshire and Donna Winkler; and his mother-in-law, Metta Brown.
The family will receive friends on Thursday August 20, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir, with Rev. Rick Bowman officiating.
