James Calvin Bowman

Mr James Calvin Bowman, 81, of Lenoir passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on May 15, 2026 following a courageous three-year battle with cancer, multiple myeloma.

James was born September 18, 1944 in Danville, VA to the late Arnold Bowman and Viola Hollar Bowman. He was an active member of Union Grove Baptist Church where he faithfully volunteered to fill any role that was needed. He was best known for serving as a greeter and assisting in the fellowship hall. James will be remembered for his friendly smile, quick since of humor, and warm personality. He never met a stranger and had a gift of making others feel welcome. James also enjoyed music and loved to dance.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Bowman, Jackie Bowman, and Bob Bowman; sister, Margaret Bowman Turner; and half-sister, Inez Worsham.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Margaret Bowman; son, Jamie Bowman and wife Tonia; daughter, Julie Justice and husband Jeff; granddaughters, Morgan Mitchell and husband Charlie, and Rileigh Bowman; grandsons, Chase Bowman and wife Kirsten, Hunter Justice and wife Alexis, and Jordan Justice; seven great grandchildren; and brother, John Bowman and wife Louise.

A celebration of life will be held 11:00AM Friday, May 22, 2026 at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Craven officiating.
