Gary Wayne Godfrey, 69, of Granite Falls, peacefully entered into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday January 28, 2026 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem following a brief illness.
Gary was born on September 11, 1956, the son of the late Flay George Godfrey and Nellie Bradley Godfrey. Gary was a proud United States Marine veteran, and dedicated many years of his life as a skilled tool maker at Forest City Tool, where his precision and craftmanship were highly valued. Gary was of the Baptist faith, was a devoted follower of the Lord, and will be remembered for his kindness and generous spirit.
In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Godfrey; step-daughter, Michelle Chester; two brothers, Roger Flay Godfrey and and Ronnie Blane Godfrey; and his sister, Patsy Toon.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Gary Godfrey and wife Michelle of Lenoir and Shaun Lee Godfrey of Rhodhiss; his step-daughter, Peggy Sue Price of Hudson; his step-son, Roger Dean Price, Jr. of Lenoir; his sister, Wanda Clawson of Lenoir; also surviving are 20 grandchildren, which included Eli his side kick.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday February 3, 2026 in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls, with Rev. Jason Hines officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Eva Mae.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00-3:00 P.M., one hour prior to the service at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls.
The family requests that those attending the service honor Gary’s memory by wearing Cowboys gear or the colors gray and blue.
