Franklin Scott Hubbs

Franklin Scott Hubbs, Jr. March 19, 1942 – August 27, 2026, Age 84, Granite Falls, NC, passed away Thursday August 27, 2026 in the Glenn R. Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, NC after a brief illness. He was born in Kingsport, Tennessee to Franklin Scott Hubbs, Sr and Elizabeth Sechrest Hubbs Booth.

Scott graduated from Myers Park High School, Charlotte, NC and the Carolina School of Broadcasting, Charlotte, NC. Scott’s interest in radio began when he was 15 years of age working at WGIV radio station in Charlotte cleaning up around the station after school hours during the week. He was given an opportunity some years later to serve as an on-air full time part of the stations broadcast team in 1960. He was given the radio call name of “Hot Scott” and working alongside DJ’s Pete “Hound Dog” Toomey, Chattie Hattie Leeper, Rocking Ray Gooding and “Little Joe” Wilson. During this time he would emcee many notable vocal groups from that time period, Ray Charles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Otis Redding among many others. From WGIV he worked at WIST radio, Charlotte, and other stations in Wilmington, NC, Cape Canaveral, Florida and ended his career at WSPF, Hickory, NC. After his many years in radio he changed direction and worked for Eastway Lock and Key, Charlotte.

Scott loved with all his heart and soul his family and loved to reminisce about so many things growing up. He also loved the water whether it be in Florida or Lake Hickory.

Scott was preceded in death by former wife Janice and daughter Janna Lynn Hubbs.

Scott is survived by his daughter Anna Hubbs Johnson (Pete) of North Wilkesboro, NC, stepson Jody Kuykendall (Tiffany, Kylie and Karigan) of Lenoir, NC, Molly (grandcat), sister Robin Bigham (David) of Charlotte, NC, nephew Andrew Bigham (Kayla, Nathan) of Lancaster, SC and niece Meredith Bigham Pittman (Houston, Isla Jane and Banks) of Charlotte, NC.
