Ms. Dennice “Jean” Wilson, 82, of Rhodhiss, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a period of declining health.
Jean was born on July 8, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Clarence Miller and Dora Lee Love Miller. She was a woman of strong spirit and a giving heart, always putting others before herself. Jean found joy in serving her community as a member of the Rhodhiss Ruritan Club and the Ladies Auxiliary at the Rhodhiss Fire Department, where she built lasting friendships and touched many lives.
Above all, Jean was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt whose greatest happiness came from the time she spent with her children and the many generations that followed. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and unconditional love, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jean also had a playful and sentimental side. She was an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers, always on the lookout for unique additions to her cherished collection. She was also a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, whose music brought her joy throughout the years and was often the soundtrack to special moments in her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Christine Faye Miller; her infant son, Charles Leroy Wilson; and her siblings, Robert Miller, Patricia Barilla, and Betty Lytle.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Wayne Wilson, Jr. and wife Donna of Hickory, Jimmy Wilson and wife Kaydi of Sawmills, and Tina McRary and husband Billy of Sawmills. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Amber McNeely, Vanna Allen, Tasha Roark, Carrie and Joseph Hodges, Jamie and Zachary Queen, Clara and Elijah Wagoner, Kaylie Wilson, Cailyn McRary, and Nicholas McRary. She was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
She is also survived by her siblings, Jerry and Kathy Miller of Chicago, Bud and Sue Miller of Indiana, Georgette Workman of Newton, and Arlando Miller of Granite Falls; her special friend and caregiver, Judy Edwards; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mackie Funeral Service.
A funeral service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 10, 2026, in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service, with Rev. Charles Bryant officiating. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Jean’s legacy of love, strength, and devotion to her family will live on in all who knew and loved her.
