Mary Carolyn Moore Deitz, 73, of Hudson, NC, went to her heavenly home on September 29,
2023, while under the care of Amorem Hospice of Hudson.
Carolyn was born on October 9, 1949 to the late Clyde and Gladys Moore in Valdese, NC.
She grew up as a daddy’s girl alongside her best friends and sisters, Janie Miller and Diane
Johnson. She met the love of her life, Eddie, as a teenager and they were married in June of
1968. They celebrated 55 years of marriage this year. Carolyn has three children,
daughter-Tracey Harris (Gary), son-Jamie Deitz (Jennifer), and daughter-Sabrina Powell
(Derrick). She also has four grandchildren-Parker and Annie Harris and Jacob and Josalyn
Powell and several grandpups as well. All of her children and grandchildren were raised by a
dedicated, Christian woman who loved and supported her family fiercely. Carolyn also loved her
nieces and nephews as if they were her own and always opened her home to all of them.
Carolyn graduated from Hudson High School and went on to work for and retire from
the Caldwell County Schools Nutrition Department where she was loved and respected by all
who knew her. She spent her summers with her family at the lake and as a part of the Lenoir Ski
Club. Many vacations were spent camping, at the beach and traveling around the country. She
loved gardening and working in the yard in her spare time. She also spent time playing cards
and going to cruise ins with her long time friends – Robert and Etheleen Phillips and Doug and
Kathy Hawkins.
Carolyn was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Sawmills where she was most
known for serving meals to the children during Vacation Bible School. Many in the community
also knew her as a long time part of J and D Tax Service.
Carolyn, you will be missed by all who loved and knew you. Your love will live on, and we
will do our best to make you proud.
A funeral will be held at 1:00 o’clock at Mt Zion Baptist Church on Thursday, October 5,
1787 Cajahs Mountain Rd, Hudson, NC. The family will receive from 6:00-8:00 PM on
Wednesday, October 4.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make donations in memory of Carolyn to the Mount
Zion Baptist Church Vacation Bible School fund or to the Rathbun House of 121 Sherwood Rd.,
Asheville, NC.
