Carolyn Thompson Hamby, 85, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026. Born on March 10, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William “Bill” Thompson and Minnie Coffey Thompson.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Hamby; her brother, J.T. Thompson; and her sister, Linda Melton.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her son, Roger Hamby (Rhonda); her daughters, Jackie Collins and Kim Kale (Rev. Terry Kale); her grandchildren, Crystal Sherrill (Weston), Ryan Hamby, Colt Kale (Caleigh), and Nathaniel Kale (Haleigh); her eight great-grandchildren, Madalynn, Lucy, Sadie, Ryder, Kyler, Harrison, Emersyn, and Baby Kale, expected in November 2026; and her brother, Charles Thompson.
Carolyn dedicated more than 30 years of her life to the furniture industry, where her strong work ethic and friendly spirit touched many lives. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. Carolyn never met a stranger and was known for her warm smile, kind heart, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her love, generosity, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 2:00PM to 3:00PM at New Life Baptist Church.
A graveside service will immediately follow at Nazareth Adventist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Kale officiating.
Though Carolyn’s earthly journey has ended, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at Trinity Ridge for the compassionate care and kindness they provided Carolyn during the final years of her life. They appreciate your prayers, support, and acts of kindness during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Kidney Cancer Association in Carolyn’s memory.
