Barbara Hamby Poovey

Mrs. Barbara Hamby Poovey, 91, of Granite Falls passed away Friday, October 2, 2026 at Amorem Hospice in Hudson.

Barbara was born December 3, 1934 in Caldwell County to the late Carlos E. Hamby and Ruth Parlier Hamby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Poovey; daughter, Deliliah “Lori” Lorane Chapman; brothers, Carlos “Sunny” Hamby and Wayne Hamby; and sisters, Linda Gilbert and Belvia Myers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Carlos E. Poovey of Granite Falls, Harry C. Poovey and wife Brenda of Hickory, Teresa Canella of Granite Falls, Edmund Poovey of Granite Falls, and Charles Poovey and wife Tammy of Granite Falls; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Louise Hamby of Granite Falls and Judith “Carol” Hamby of Granite Falls; and son-in-law, Bill Chapman of Morganton.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday October 7, 2026 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir with the Rev. Mike Costner officiating.
